Frieren Beyond Journey’s End Anime Review:
Frieren : Beyond Journey’s End is an ongoing anime adaptation of the Japanese Manga titled Sousou No Frieren set up in a fantasy world of magic, adventure and drama.
Frieren, the protagonist of the story is an Elven Mage who was a part of the Hero Party who defeated the Demon King and brought peace in the world. Unlike any other story, this story begins after the demon king is defeated and an era of peace is upon the world. Frieren, being an elf possess a lifespan of tens of thousands of years.
The story begins with Frieren returning to meet with her former party members only to find the Hero Himmel as an old man. Frieren : Beyond Journey’s End Episode 1 deals with Frieren’s reunion with Himmel and subsequently Himmel’s Funeral. A feeling of guilt of not knowing her dear companion makes her cry at his funeral. Frieren then decides to know humans better and reunites with her Party’s priest Heiterafter few years.
Heiter requests Frieren to take care of his adopted daughter Fern, who in her childhood is already a skilled magic user. Accompanied by Fern, Frieren then decides to make a journey to the Resting place of Souls to meet with Himmel and the Others once again.
Frieren reunites with her party’s warrior Eisen, a dwarf with a relatively longer lifespan than humans but lesser than elves. Eisen asks Frieren to take his student Stark on her journey as a warrior and then they form a party to complete their Journey Beyond Journey’s End.
Frieren Beyond Journey’s End Episodes
Frieren : Beyond Journey’s End Part 1 was broadcasted from September 29, 2023 and December 22, 2023 and consisted 16 episodes full of nostalgia, adventure, magic and character development.
Frieren : Beyond Journey’s End Part 2 started its release on January 5, 2024 and is scheduled till March 22, 2024 with a total of 28 episodes. The anime is still ongoing with its latest release of episode 22 on February 9, 2024.
Frieren Beyond Journey’s End Season Explained:
Frieren decides to make a journey to the Valley of Resting of Souls in order to reunite with Himmel and the others. She reunites with Heiter and Eisen who requests her to take Fern and Stark under her care as well.
The three of them encounters new places, quests, towns and demons. The part 1 climax involves a fight between Frieren the Slayer and the demon commander Aura the Guillotine. The 1000 year old elf Frieren overwhelms Aura and ends her tyranny. There is also a battle of Fern and Stark against Aura’s subordinate demons.
Frieren : Beyond Journey’s End Part 2 starts off with Frieren, Fern and Stark continuing their journey along with Sein who was invited by Frieren into her party as a Priest. This story further unfolds establishing a slow yet sweet relationship between Fern and Stark. Sein parts ways with the party after he gets some news about his long – lost friend because of whom he actually agreed to join this journey.
Frieren, Fern and Stark discovers that a First Class Mage Pass is mandatory to pass through the Northern Continent and to the place where they are headed. With this objective they travel to the great city Auberst and to give the First Class Mage Exam held every three years.
Fern and Frieren applies for the First Class Mage Exam which consists of three stages. The first stage requires applicants to form a pair of three and capture a Stille, a bird with supersonic speed, in three days. Frieren gets sorted in a group with Lawineand Kannewhile Fern gets sorted with Ubeland Land. The rule states that none of the members in the pair of three must die during this stage of exam. This exam takes place inside a supposedly invincible barrier over a forest which is eventually shattered by Frieren. Both the groups of Fern and Frieren manages to pass the First Test. The Anime episodes have covered till this part of the story.

Frieren : Beyond Journey’s End Manga written by Kanehito Yamada is published by Shogakukan in its shonen Manga Magazine since April 2020. Currently the Manga series consists of 12 Volumes and 124 Chapters and is still ongoing.

Frieren Beyond Journey’s End What to Expect this Season:
Frieren : Beyond Journey’s End Anime will cover the Second and third test up to Manga Chapter – 60 . Having passed the first stage of exam, the Second test conducted by the Mage Senseincludes a survival Dungeon which can create perfect duplicates of any and every person entering the Dungeon. The passed candidates including Fern and Frieren enters the dungeon and forms a group with the mages they encountered and got acquainted with in the first test like Denken, Lawine, Kanne, Ubel and Land. Having the cooperation of the mages Frieren and Fern plans to fight the Guardian of the Dungeon’s Boss who is none other than Frieren’s Clone. Ultimately Frieren and Fern defeats Clone Frieren and several other candidates pass the Second Test.
The Third and Final Test is supervised and concluded solely by the Great Mage Serie. Serie is an elf mage just like Frieren. Serie is also known as the Living Grimoire as she possesses knowledge of every spell in existence. Serie is also Frieren’s Master’s Master and hence have a history with Frieren from a thousand years ago. The Third Test is conducted by Serie and is based on her intuition whether the mages are worthy of being called a First Class mage. Frieren fails the test having irritated Serie and is also banned to enter the Royal Capital for the next 1000 years and Fern passes for being the first mage ever in detecting fluctuations in Serie’s mana release.
